Experience Workshop had the pleasure of welcoming teachers from Hungary and Czechia for a six-day Erasmus+ training course. The AI and Digital Competences for Everyday Learning course provided a focused professional development experience centered on practical classroom technology.

About the course

The course was built on the idea that all educators, regardless of their subject, need a strong foundation in digital tools to support modern teaching. Over the six days, participants engaged in a 30-lesson training schedule, led by trainer Jukka Lehtoranta, designed to build their confidence and skills. The curriculum covered a wide range of essential topics, from understanding the core components of digital education to the specific applications of artificial intelligence, like ChatGPT.

Teachers explored the ethical considerations of using AI in schools and learned how it can aid in curriculum planning. They also practiced coding and robotics, treating them as fundamental literacy skills that can be implemented into various subjects, not just science classes. A key goal was to help teachers identify both the challenges and the real opportunities that come with bringing technology into their classrooms.

A particularly valuable part of the week was a visit to Kuokkala School, a local comprehensive school. The principal, Markku Juhola, began by explaining the school’s structure and approach to education. Following this introduction, the visiting teachers were given a tour of the school by Finnish students, allowing them to see the learning environment from a student’s perspective.

Outside of the scheduled lessons, the visit was enriched by a cultural program. The group enjoyed an educational city tour of Jyväskylä, a peaceful nature trail, and a classic Finnish grill party by the lake. A visit to the local Aalto2 museum provided insight into the educational history of central Finland and the work of the renowned architect Alvar Aalto.
