Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi, STEAM Director of Experience Workshop and Senior Researcher at the University of Jyväskylä, recently led a pioneering intensive course titled Planetary Wellbeing and Sustainability in Finnish Education as a Visiting Lecturer at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. This course was made possible through the academic leadership and international vision of Professor Ka Ho Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic & Research) at HSUHK, whose work continues to shape global dialogues on higher education, sustainability, and intercultural learning.

Jointly hosted by The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University, and held at the iconic M+ Museum—Asia’s leading center for contemporary visual culture—the course explored the convergence of sustainability, creativity, and education in a uniquely immersive setting.

A Visionary Academic Partnership
This collaboration builds on Professor Ka Ho Mok’s internationally recognized scholarship and leadership in comparative policy, internationalization of higher education, and social development across East Asia. A Changjiang Chair Professor, recipient of the “Top Leader in Social Sciences and Humanities” and “Top 2% Scientists” accolades, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Global Higher Education (University of Oxford), Professor Mok has played a pivotal role in building academic bridges between East and West.
His ability to convene institutions and scholars around the world to address pressing educational challenges—such as sustainability, equity, and post-pandemic recovery—has transformed higher education dialogues into actionable pathways. This course is a tangible example of his commitment to integrating local and global insights and rethinking university engagement with society and the environment.
Continuing the Conversation
The Planetary Wellbeing and Sustainability course functioned as a living laboratory for exploring how education can serve as a catalyst for transformation. It offers a model for how universities might engage students in meaningful, cross-disciplinary work that responds to urgent planetary concerns.
The course functioned as a living laboratory for rethinking education as a tool for planetary transformation—moving from theory to practical, classroom- and campus-ready action. This video encourages continued collaboration for a more sustainable and caring future through innovative pedagogy.

Meeting and working together with Prof. Mok’s colleagues, Dr. Muk-Yan Wong and Dr. Rainie Ke was an amazing experience. We had a meaningful academic exchange in addition to the courseworks.
